Dear all,
The first song of the new album releases today.
You can find her on most platforms.
I Was Innocent
Every story carved into these crumbling walls starts with I was innocent
Blame my mother, blame my father, blame my coldhearted lover
But know that I was innocent
Didn't want to steal
Didn't mean to run
Didn't pull the trigger
Didn't hide the gun
Every cry aimed at that tiny square of sky rings with you are guilty too
You have lied and you have lusted, you've misused and mistrusted
Oh yeh you are guilty too
Didn't want to steal
Didn't mean to run
Didn't pull the trigger
Didn't hide the gun
Every whisper mumbled in these bad dream slumbers stops with please leave me be
Please don't haunt me, don't confront me, please don't push the truth upon me
Oh no please leave me be
Didn't want to steal
Didn't mean to run
Didn't pull the trigger
Didn't hide the gun
All I ever wanted was to save her
But I guess I lost myself
In the prison of our good intentions
The wicked warden laughs behind your back

We've recorded this song with Reyer Zwart, JP Hoekstra and Rowin Tettero at SSE Noord in Amsterdam. A special thank you for Frans Hagenaars who engineered and mixed it and succeeded in making it sound so spacious and intimate at the same time. Hats off to them all. I've lived in this song for some time now and am still searching out all its corners.
I hope you will find a place in it too.
Love,
Christine
PS This is also my first release with the Dutch label Excelsior Recordings. Happy to be on board
